WATER CONSERVATION
AND PLUMBING TIPS
• Using unnecessary amounts of detergents, bleach or chemicals must be avoided. The natural bacteria in one’s septic system might get killed.
• Biodegradable soaps and detergents must be used. • A cheap spring-loaded timer, directly attached to one’s outdoor faucet must be bought in order to avoid extra watering of the lawn during the summers. Even when one forgets to switch off the sprinkler, this will avoid overwatering.
• Unnecessary water usage will occur if water pressure in one’s home is above 60 pounds per square (PSI) inch, as it harms the plumbing system. Water pressure on one’s street must be found by contacting the local water administration, in case it is above 60 pounds then to restrict the water pressure one must install a pressure reducing valve at his home.
• For finding about undetected water leakage, one must check water meter when there is no usage of water and later after 8 to 10 hours. In case there is a fluctuation in the meter, it proves an undetected water leakage, which must be repaired or changed.
• A new toilet flapper and fill valve must be installed to keep one’s toilet working effectively because a toilet that leaks use more than 40% of total water usage.
• The water heater temperature must be set below 120°F or medium on older models for conserving energy. We recommend use gas or electric tankless water heaters.
• Up to 7.5 gallons of water per minute can be saved by changing an old shower head that too without adjusting full spray action at low or high water pressures. • Everyday more than 8 gallons of water is wasted when a faucet leaks by dripping water once every second. This makes up to 3,000 gallons annually.
