Earthdance
Posted by Jon Sherman
A leaf falls to the ground. The rain resumes. A flower blooms and dies. An oak sprouts up from a buried acorn. Everywhere in nature the circles turn. Round dances within dances. This circle, or cycle, is the essence of sustainablility in natural communities. Nature has a heritage and a future because of the cycle. There are many principles at work in wilderness from which to learn, but if we were to honor just this one principle in our lives more, human community would be a lot less out of balance than it is. If our children are to have a future, it will be because we have chosen to give back and complete the cycles that were begun when we took from the earth. When we do this, we join the earthdance.
Earthdance
round rolls the water
round rolls the air
round rolls the earth
round the sun's
rounded flare
round roll the seasons
we see with round eye
round roll the reasons
that flowers must die
circles of wisdom
turned by the years
circles of passion
turned by the tears
dance to her rhythm
sing to her rhyme
all that we're given
is taken in time
